MendPDF is one of the few browser-based PDF editors with native right-to-left text editing. Edit Arabic and Hebrew text in PDF documents with proper bidirectional handling, script-aware fonts, and local-only processing.

The challenge with RTL PDF editing

Most PDF editors treat text as a simple left-to-right stream. When they encounter Arabic or Hebrew characters, the results are often broken: reversed text direction, incorrect character shaping, missing ligatures, or garbled mixed-direction content. MendPDF was built from the ground up to handle RTL scripts correctly.

How MendPDF handles RTL text

Script detection: The editor automatically detects Arabic (U+0600–U+06FF) and Hebrew (U+0590–U+05FF) characters and applies the correct text direction.
Script-aware fonts: Self-hosted Noto Sans Hebrew, Noto Sans Arabic, and Noto Sans fonts with bold variants. The engine selects the appropriate font based on the script in your text.
Bidirectional text: Mixed Hebrew/Arabic and Latin text is handled with proper BiDi ordering. Numbers, punctuation, and Latin sub-runs maintain correct direction within RTL paragraphs.
In-place editing: Click on any RTL text in the PDF to edit it. The editor preserves the original position, alignment, and formatting.

Local processing for RTL documents

Like all MendPDF editing, RTL text editing happens entirely in your browser. The WebAssembly engine processes the PDF locally. Your document is never uploaded to any server. This is especially important for business documents in Hebrew and Arabic that often contain sensitive financial or legal information.
